Jagruk Nagrik Sanstha Vasai (JNS) brings Goonj’s ‘Not Just a Piece of Cloth’ (NJPC) campaign to Vasai Virar.
Women are the most marginalized in India’s rural population. Given the poor economic status of a vast mass, even arranging a cloth piece for the essential biological process of menses every month is a big struggle for most. They end up using all kinds of rags leading to widespread unhealthy practices during menses forming a strong connect with their reproductive health as well. The shame & silence associated with the issue makes it the most taboo subject even among women, as a vast majority face great hardships & indignity, besides health risks due to this problem.
Let’s give them a hope to live freely by contributing cotton cloth in vast quantities.
Goonj, (www.goonj.org) an award winning pan India non profit org, has been highlighting this issue for more than a decade now. It reaches MY Pads (clean cloth pads made from cloth generated from the cities) to women in the most far flung areas, apart from making them aware about menstrual hygiene issues.
Jagruk Nagrik Sanstha Vasai (JNS) is partnering in this noble quest to help spread this campaign across Vasai Virar.
We ask individuals, corporates, schools, hotels, exporters, hospitals across Vasai –Virar, to contribute cotton cloth (in whatever shape or size like bed sheets, towels etc) in big quantities for this worthy cause. Goonj will turn this cloth into clean cloth sanitary pads and reach them out to women and adolescent girls in villages across India.
