How much you think you know / How much you should know

We as human beings know our rights. We know what is expected to be done and how a thing should be done. We know when something is wrong and we know what should be done to solve it. But are we the only living things on this planet ?

Surely we proudly sit on top of the intellectual food chain, but we need to look down at times. Plants and animals are the most ignored by us. Why is it so? Do they not have a mind of their own to exist ? Yes of course but their way is a bit different. We humans forget the bitter truth that no matter what or how much we achieve, our lives are strongly interconnected with nature – and this cannot be changed.

We need to remember that we humans are not ‘the’ but ‘one of the‘ many species on this planet and we are responsible for the COEXISTENCE of all creatures. We need not be scientists, politicians, or reformers to bring about a change, but simply awakeners, doers and compassionate individuals. Sadly, most of us aren’t aware of this and we follow the majority blindly. Is it so difficult to think differently?

I, as an Animal Welfare and Rights Activist have seen both the good side and the grave side of my fellow humans, and I don’t blame their actions, but despise their beliefs that lead to similar actions. A simple action of shooing away a dog even when it is minding its own business could lead to a kid getting one thing engraved on his mind, that a dog is supposed to be untouched and kept away. We surely don’t go around shooing away random people on the streets (even though we certainly create end number of differences among humans) as it would be considered a rude act. But did you know that shooing away a dog in a threatening manner is a punishable offence? No we don’t know that. Why? Not because we don’t want to but because we don’t feel the need to.

We should be well aware of our rights as well as our duties, towards our fellow animals as well as the plants around us. Owning a pet has to be well planned and considered a serious affair. One should understand that one is adopting a new life in to the family and the home and one should be prepared in every way. Understand your pet’s character and mold them accordingly. It is the sole responsibility of the pet parent to be aware of the rights and duties regarding animals they keep, and they should follow the same.
