The good news for Vasai-Virar folks is that MMRDA is planning to connect Vasai and Bhayander by constructing a 3 + 3 lane bridge, that will run parallel to the Western Railway Bridge.
The estimated cost is pegged at Rs 1,501 crore and the bridge will be approx 5 km long, with a breath of around 30 metres.
More than 3 lakh commuters travelling from Vasai to Mumbai and vice versa will benefit. Travel time will reduce by about 10 km, thus saving both time and fuel. The bridge will have an exit point at Subhash Chandra Chowk at Bhayander, Coutino Road at Naigaon and Panju island, where only boats have to be used at present. It will also be an alternative to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway.
The project is expected to be completed by September 2024.
