Vasai-Virar will receive additional water from The Surya Regional Water Supply Project. The first phase of this project was finished in June. This will solve the water scarcity problems in the Vasai-Virar and Mira-Bhayandar areas. On Monday, a march was taken under the leadership of MLA Sunil Shinde, a member of Shiv Sena Party outside the Bandra Kurla Complex headquarters of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The MMRDA officials told Shiv Sena that partial work of the first phase is still ongoing and that water service will begin in October. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will conduct the first phase inauguration. However, there is some debate that water supply has not yet begun as the Chief Minister is not getting time yet.
On this occasion, the team met with Additional Commissioner 2 Ashwin Mudgal and urged that the first phase be implemented as soon as possible. Sunil Shinde stated that Mudgal assured the group that after the completion of the pending work, water would be supplied until the Navratri festival. Shinde also threatened that if MMRDA does not keep its pledge, they will take to the streets once more to protest.
